DIY Simple Cat Bed

If you remember a bit ago we posted about getting materials for a pet bed we wanted to create for our cat Lambi in the bedroom.

We ended up making a small plywood cube that blends almost seamlessly with the flooring we just installed recently (see more photos here).

Measuring the dimensions for the space, we had thick plywood planks cut at the hardware store and secured them with screws.

Small brackets were placed inside to create a seamless top and frame.

We bought black flannel and used a very simple stitch for the edges in a thick yarn. Two foam inserts fit inside.

We’ve been looking for a pet bed for so long and are super happy to have the perfect one made for the space now!

    nicely done!

  • does the cat go in it? Does the cat love it?
looks wonderful, so does your blog.

  • Love this design. So simple, and nice.

  • That cat bed is so stylish. Thanks for the inspiration, I might build one for my cat now :)

  • Chloe – Yes she does seem to love it! We’re so happy because she would sleep on our bed much too often and now sleeps on hers!

  • I love this idea! Also, where is the mat that is in front of it from?

    • Cameron – Thanks! That is actually a grate looking downstairs. It’s hard to tell from the photos though. A mat in front would have been nice though!

  • Have you thought about mounting another pad on top of the box? If there is one thing all 5 of my cats like, and that is a “lookout” to perch (read: Sprawl!) on. I typically try to mount with 2-sided tape and Velcro so that I can remove and re-install after washing (OK, no tape on the material – sewing involved here, lol)

I love the material blending coordination though! Very Neat!

    • Hi Edwin,

She does like perches that’s for sure, but we’ve moved her bed into the hallway and there’s not really any good lookout points for her in that spot. We have thought about putting some sort of perch for her on a few windows around the house. I wonder how to go about doing that… A cushioned perch is a great idea!

  • That bed is so simple and beautiful.
It looks amazing in that space as well.

  • Kudos!

Loving this for so many reasons ~ functional, simple, incorporates so many wonderful elements – I love the aesthetics and the practicality of it, how it’s organic to the space

    Lucky Lambi!
