Entry Way Complete!

Since we made the DIY wood and pipe shelving unit in our old entry space, we needed to relocate the entry to a better spot. Right outside the door was a tight squeeze, but we managed to take full advantage of the small space.

We bought an antique coat hanger, Signe Ikea rugs and made a DIY custom bench for the space out of plywood, painted black. For the bench we created a simple frame similar to our DIY pet bed and attached brackets on each side of the bench for more support. The bench also doubles as shoe storage, which is perfect!

We also used an old key holder we had laying around the house for years. I love the contrast of the old woods against the white paint!

I love that we now have a spot to hang up our things right when we walk in and sit down to put our shoes on. Also, there’s been a lot less “where’s my keys?” incidents. I can’t believe we didn’t do this sooner!

  • Great Job!

Have you thought of hand stitching the two rugs together into one great rectangle for greater symmetry?

  • lovely entryway–and beautiful purse hanging there.

  • Love it! You two are masters of simple and chic. I love your coat hanger, the key box and the two pieces you made all together. So good looking and might I say I adore your bag too? Oh, okay…and the pink shoes! Gorgeous! :)

  • Thanks guys! Go glad you like it! It’s amazing how much we actually use the space now.

Kristina – that’s a good idea to sew the two together. We’d like get a different entry rug soon but haven’t found any we like yet. These ones are good for the summer but when winter hits we need something a little more serious!

  • Love that key holder box!

  • Beautiful! Love the contrast of the white walls and the wood detail.

Just found your blog and I love it!

  • I blogged your entry

This is perfect Every hose needs a spot to take off your shoes and hang your coat and this looks great

  • So pretty. Any leads on where to get sweet diamond glass like that in the front door?

    • Hmmm, not sure. This one is a vintage door but if you’re handy you might be able to rig something together. Maybe try looking at stained glass or a local glass/mirror place might have a similar design you can get cut to shape.
