Vintage View-Masters

Valeria and I have been on a bit of a View-Master kick lately and are having a lot of fun clicking through the many reels we recently acquired.

Using a slide scanner we decided to capture some of the images and although the whole three dimensional effect is lost they are still some captivating stills.

The Prehistoric Animals reel is an obvious favorite with some images that can only be that of a viewmaster. They remind me of old Holga or Diana photos.

Now only if we can find some good universe or space exploration reels!

These are fantastic!! Thanks for taking the time to scan and share!
Oh the dinos remind me of that crazy ride at Epcot Centre :)
Oh, I love these old view master photos. I want to blow them up and frame them. They are amazingly dramatic.
I just love how they set these up! Thanks so much for scanning/photographing them and sharing them!
Hello, I’ve been collecting view-masters as well and was just wondering what model slide scanner did you use to scan these? Are you happy with the scanner? Thanks!
Lucy – The scanner we used is an Epson Perfection 4180. It’s not a bad scanner and was purchased about 5 or 6 years ago. It also works as a traditional flatbed scanner too which is a bonus.
these are brilliant!
So wonderful to see these images again after forty years! I wore out the reels as a boy in the 1960s.
These are Ray Harryhausen models, by the way, used first in his segment for an Irwin Allen animal documentary in the mid-1950s. See: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0048950/
Very cool! Thanks for sharing! :)
